Reflecting on 2024 and the Year Ahead

Looking back on 2024, it’s clear that this year has continued the trend of growth, transformation, and innovation in the tech space — and here at STEP Software. We’ve worked alongside brilliant, forward-thinking clients, tackled exciting projects, and continued to adapt to the ever-changing technology landscape.

Last year our end of year message highlighted tech trends that we’d been keeping an eye on; this year we continue to keep track of what’s important in our industry.

It’s been a year of many repeated trends as well as several very exciting newcomers. Let’s have look at what we’ve been monitoring:

  • AI continues to be the biggest trend as business leaders embrace its power to increase productivity, customer experience and profitability.
  • Cybersecurity and the rising frequency of cyberattacks highlighted the need for stronger preventative measures and more innovative ways of proactively addressing this ever-present threat. Companies are focusing more on the need to prioritize it within all new tech hitting the market.
  • IoT and its expansion into enterprise and the increase of public adoption is a trend that continues to excite our team.
  • Quantum Computing, while this buzzword first hit the market in the 80’s it is only now that computing technology is moving it forward with real world application potential. Quantum computing is poised to have game changing impacts in life sciences, financial markets, and even the electric vehicle industry. We are keeping a close eye on this and how it will change business.
  • FemTech, a relative newcomer in the tech space has grown 700% in just five years, powered primarily by software innovation. Consumers and healthcare providers are embracing the benefits of this new vertical to help better diagnose, treat and evaluate a massively underserved population.
  • Wearable Tech, its more than a watch now. Smarter wearables emerged, including rings, socks, and even yoga pants. These super cool pieces of tech hammer home the need for stronger cybersecurity technology.
  • Software developer shortages continue to plague businesses post pandemic. Even with hybrid work environments and global access to talent, businesses are consistently having to pivot as they struggle to staff teams in a booming digital economy.
  • Legacy technology, we’ve all heard the term; its what business are built on. But aging technology and the need to carry it forward while executing fiscally responsible strategic plans is nothing short of a herculean effort. Effectively managing business needs while strategic modernization and digitization occurs is a trend this year that we’ve been hearing a lot about from our clients, and one we don’t take lightly.

Keeping our finger on the pulse of these trends is exciting and something we will continue to do for our clients and with our team. The trust our clients place in us to deliver tailored, transformative software solutions is a privilege we never take for granted, and collaborating with them again this year has been our honour.

Looking Ahead to 2025

While we’re not ready to share all the details just yet, we’re working behind the scenes on an exciting new technology that will reshape how businesses think about security and connectivity. Stay tuned, 2025 promises to be a game-changer!
